Shed Style
Are you searching for a unique and captivating style of home in the East Cobb area? Look no further than the Shed style, also called cedar contemporary. It’s stood the test of time and continues to attract a new generation of buyers.
As an East Cobb real estate agent, I have seen the growing interest in this architectural style and am excited to share more about its history and appeal.
History
The Shed style originated in California in the late 1960s and quickly spread across the U S. It features box-like forms capped with single-sloped shed roofs facing different directions. You can easily identify it by its use of stained wood siding, long narrow windows installed vertically or horizontally, and angled windows that follow the slope of the roof line.
In East Cobb, you’ll find numerous Cedar Contemporary/Shed homes built in the 1970s and 1980s. These homes offer a cozy yet modern atmosphere that is perfect for both entertaining guests and relaxing with family.

Characteristics
First we look at the use of warm wood siding connected horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to trace the lines of the Shed roof. Then we often see long narrow windows and windows that are angled to follow the slope of the roof line. Open floor plans make the most of natural light and vaulted ceilings. The Cedar Contemporary Shed Style home provides a comfortable and spacious living environment.

These homes are experiencing a resurgence in popularity among younger buyers who appreciate the form and function of this modern architectural style. However, with the current low inventory of homes for sale in Cobb County, finding a Cedar Contemporary Shed Style home can be a challenge.
Market outlook for Shed style
As of now, there are only 14 of these homes actively listed for sale in the Cobb area, making them a hot commodity among buyers looking for something special.
Under contract with multiple offers
I recently listed a 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath Cedar Contemporary Shed Style home in the Pope school district in Cobb County. The home has a detached garage in addition to the usual attached garage, making it highly attractive to buyers. It was on the market for just five days and received multiple offers, demonstrating the enduring appeal of this style of home.
